Castlebar Celtic B 4 - 1 Ballyglass

Welcome Inn Hotel Premier League

                                       19th August 2004

After a poor run of results recently, Castlebar Celtic B got back to winning ways in this home encounter against Ballyglass. Celtic found the net with four superb goals in a highly entertaining game.  Leading goalscorer Mark Rowland opened the scoring after 10 minutes.

Rowland was put through by Sean Walsh and finished brilliantly past ex-Celt Niall Gallagher in the Ballyglass goal.  At this stage it was all Celtic, with Declan Reilly and Sean Walsh commanding midfield.

Left-winger Chris O'Doherty doubled Celtic’s advantage in the 20th minute with an excellently worked goal.  Delcan Reilly and Stephen Jennings combined with a series of passes, with the latter putting O'Doherty through who finished in style with a low left-foot drive.  Celtic kept the pressure on Ballyglass for the remaining of the half, but only for some last ditch defending and good goalkeeping the score stayed at 2-0.

The second-half saw Ballyglass up their performance, but they could not find a way through a resilient Celtic defence in which captain Brian Thompson and Brian McNulty were outstanding.

Celtic’s third goal was one of real class.  Stephen Jennings beat three Ballyglass defenders before chipping the ball over the keeper who was left stranded in the six-yard box.

After this the game end as a contest.  Celtic were still creating chances however with Declan Gibbons shooting agonisingly wide after a superb run from his own half.  Sean Walsh and Mark Rowland also came close to increasing the home side’s margin.

Celtic scored their fourth in the 80th minute.  The impressive Declan Reilly received the ball in his own half, and surged through the Ballyglass defence before slipping the ball under the advancing Gallagher for a fine individual goal.

Ballyglass scored a consolation goal in the last few minutes, with substitute John Noonan the goalscorer.
